PO-03-065 PULSED FIELD ABLATION IS MORE EFFECTIVE THAN RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION FOR THE RETREATMENT OF CHRONIC ABLATION SUBSTRATE

چکیده
There are known limitations of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in extending and homogenizing prior ablation. The effect pulsed field (PFA) following RFA is not known. To evaluate the differential ability PFA versus to penetrate chronic lesions. A two step in-vivo study was designed simulate a retreatment scenario. Step I : Six Yorkshire swine underwent intentional ineffective using IntellaNav StablePoint catheter three sites: I.1) Right atrium: intercaval line with multiple gaps, I.2) Left right superior inferior common pulmonic veins I.3) ventricle: discrete II: Following survival period ≈5 weeks animals were remapped. Chronic identified via voltage mapping. Next, retreated as following: II.1) over focal (FARAPOINT), II.2) vein isolation single shot (FARAWAVE), II.3) randomized into arms, or RFA. In each arm, types sub-chronic lesions performed: on scar healthy myocardium. applied 4 applications 2.0kV. 30W, 60s local impedance drop >50Ω. After 2-5 day survival, atrial electrical block assessed electroanatomical All measured sub-gross for extent zones. left atria: Retreatment resulted complete (width: 16-28mm) all targeted veins, expanding disparate mean depth 4.8±1.4mm. When performed substrate, zone 7.6±1.3mm, compared 3.9±1.6mm when (p<0.01). contrast, substrate 7.0±1.6mm, similar (7.1±1.3mm; p=0.94) demonstrating that has scar. may be advantageous RFA, producing that, unlike retreatment, significantly impeded by presence from

I-46: Radiofrequency Ablation of Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are benign solid tumors that are present in the majority of women. While often asymptomatic, fibroids can result in abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pressure, pain, subfertility, dyspareunia and other symptoms. Submucous and intramural fibroids are most associated with heavy menstrual bleeding; subserosal fibroids are more often innocuous unless sufficiently large so as to con...
متن کاملMicrowave ablation is as effective as radiofrequency ablation for very-early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma
BACKGROUND Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a first-line treatment for very-early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), whereas the efficacy of percutaneous microwave ablation (MWA) for very-early-stage HCC remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to clarify this issue by comparing the safety and efficacy of percutaneous MWA with percutaneous RFA in treating very-early-stage ...
متن کاملEffective treatment of chronic radiation proctitis using radiofrequency ablation.
Endoscopic argon plasma coagulation and bipolar electrocautery are currently preferred treatments for chronic radiation proctitis, but ulcerations and strictures frequently occur. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has been successful for mucosal ablation in the esophagus. Here we report the efficacy of RFA with the BarRx Halo(90) system in three patients with bleeding from chronic radiation proctit...
متن کاملRadiofrequency ablation of hepatic malignancies: is heat better than cold?
The article by Curley and colleagues in this issue of Annals of Surgery is notable for several reasons: 1) it is the largest patient series to date using radiofrequency ablation (RFA) for destruction of malignant neoplasms of the liver; 2) it is the first large clinical trial of combined RFA and a Pringle maneuver for control of tissue cooling; and 3) it has the lowest reported local recurrence...
متن کاملBiophysics of radiofrequency ablation.
Radiofrequency (RF) ablation is a treatment modality that kills unwanted tissue by heat. Starting with cardiac arrhythmia treatment in the 1980s, RF ablation has found clinical application in a number of diseases, and is now the treatment of choice for certain types of cardiac arrhythmia and certain cancers. During RF ablation, an electrode is inserted into or steered intravascularly to the tar...
